Space Saving Kitchen Appliances
Written by ApplianceDudeIf you're like most people, space is at a premium in your kitchen. That's why it's important to look for ways to reduce your appliance footprints whenever possible. We at Kitchen Appliances Mantra have put together a short list of some of these appliances we think will help you to retake the counter space in your kitchen.
Space Saving Kitchen Appliances
- Toaster ovens
- Toaster microwaves
- Egg and muffin toasters
- Countertop dishwashers
Toaster Ovens
This little appliance has been around forever but is consistently a highly rated and sought after small kitchen appliance for a couple reasons.
First, it reduces electric consumption over firing up the oven for a small cooking job.
Second, it can be stored when you're finished with it to free up counter space.

Toaster Microwave Ovens
This one goes a little without saying as it allows your microwave to double as a toaster oven and eliminates the need for two appliances. The coolest part is the manufacturers don't charge you for both appliances either. Most of these units can be had for about what a microwave alone will cost you.

Egg and Muffin Toasters
This is something I've seen for a while and thought it was really cool. Imagine being able to make your own egg muffin without having to slave over the stove and coordinate with your toaster so that everything is done at the same time. Very cool!

Countertop Dishwashers
OK. This one is more of a convenience than a space saver but bear with me. If you don't have a dishwasher, this is another appliance that can be placed on the countertop or mounted on a stable cart and wheeled out of the way when not needed. Plus, they save on electricity and water for parts of the country that may have water restrictions.
The flip side is you may find that you can reclaim your current dishwasher's space for storage by removing it and installing shelves. Who doesn't need more storage in their kitchen?

Like the countertop dishwasher idea, but I wonder how to connect it to the drain?
And will it suffice for a family of 2? Or is it mainly for singles?

Luc J,
From those I’ve seen, most connect to the kitchen tap with a special hose much the same way that portable dishwashers do. I think I’ve heard of models that have to be plumbed in but I think that’s the exception instead of the rule. Make sure to ask how they connect no matter what model you’re looking at.
As far as capacity, they will be less in most cases than a portable dishwasher. I just looked at a Danby model that listed 4 complete place settings as its capacity.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope this info helps.
Best,
Jeff
